Abadzhyan Avetik Sergeevich
Avetik Sergeevich Abadzhyan, mononym Avetik (born August 29, 1952, Yerevan, USSR) is a painter and graphic artist.
Biography
His mother was a doctor, his father a military engineer, so the family moved frequently. He spent his childhood in Leningrad, Yerevan, and the Moscow region. In grades 9–10, he attended a programming group. After graduating from school in 1969, he enrolled at Moscow Power Engineering Institute, but after a year and a half, he left. For a while, he prepared to enter the faculty of psychology and worked for a year in an organ transplantation lab. He became interested in art. After visiting a Giacomo Manzù graphic exhibition at the Academy of Arts, he began to independently study painting.
In 1972, he met artist Vladimir Ilyushenko, from whom he learned etching while working as a night watchman, stoker, and loader.
Since the early 1980s, he began to participate in exhibitions. Avetik’s works are in private collections in Russia, Poland, USA, Italy, Finland, France, Canada, Austria, Germany, Switzerland, Hungary, Estonia.
Artistry
He started as a graphic artist (drypoint, colored etching). In painting, he initially used canvas and leaned towards expressionism, but by the late 1980s, he developed his own technique of applying ultra-thin layers of paint on hardboard. Since the early 2000s, he has produced many pastel works.
