Vadim Arisovich Zakharov

Vadim Arisovich Zakharov (born 1959, Dushanbe) is a Soviet and Russian artist, editor, an active participant of Moscow's unofficial art scene, one of the key figures of Moscow conceptualism, and laureate of the Kandinsky Prize (2009).

Biography
He graduated from the Moscow State Pedagogical Institute named after V.I. Lenin in 1982. Since 1978, he has participated in exhibitions of unofficial art and collaborated with various artists, such as Viktor Skersis (group "SZ", since 1980), Sergey Anufriev ("The Dead End of Our Time," "Angles," 1997), Andrey Monastyrsky and Yuri Leiderman (group "Kapiton," 2008-2010). In 1982-1983, he took part in exhibitions at the APTART gallery in Moscow. In the early 1980s, he contributed to the compilation of the folders for the Moscow Archive of New Art (MANI) and the collection "In the Studios No.1" (together with G. Kizevalter). Around this time, he also began collecting contemporary Moscow artists' works and creating a documentary archive related to their art. Since 1989, he has lived and worked in Russia and Germany. Since 1992, he has been the publisher of the small-circulation almanac "Pastor," dedicated to the Moscow conceptual school. He founded his own publishing house Pastor Zond Edition. In 2006, together with Ekaterina Degot, he compiled the so-called "golden book" of Moscow conceptualism, and in 2008, he founded a website. Since 2011, Zakharov has worked in collaboration with artist Niklas Nitschke.

On September 10, 2003, a monument to philosopher Theodor Adorno by Zakharov was unveiled in Frankfurt am Main. Zakharov won a closed international contest held by the city authorities, competing with Daniel Buren and Joseph Kosuth.
