Author about himself

I was born in Moscow, on Tverskoy Boulevard. I was given a pencil in Maslovka, around the same time I started to walk and see reflections of objects in my mother’s eyes, shiny teapots, and samovars—it was fascinating. While falling asleep, I would squeeze my eyes shut tight, fearing the 'battles of white and black,' and the tighter I closed them, the more vivid and amazing the mingling of white and black kings and queens became. In summer, closing my eyelids under the sun, I enjoyed the scattering and ever-changing bright colorful patterns. I think that is when the play with images began.

Then there were school, war, and institute. Luckily for me, I found myself with Cheremnykh M.M., and he brought me back to those first impressions of life. Consciously then, though not immediately, I learned to distinguish in life 'my sensations' and 'visions'—brief sketches, and to keep my own journal. To this day, this remains the most interesting and beloved thing for me.

I love Moscow, its three boulevards, and my connection with the world.
That's all.
