Nikolai Mikhailovich Romadin
Nikolai Mikhailovich Romadin (1903–1987) was a Russian Soviet painter, graphic artist, and master of landscape art. He was an academician of the USSR Academy of Arts (1967; corresponding member in 1953), People's Artist of the USSR (1971), and laureate of the Lenin Prize (1980), the Stalin Prize second class (1946), and the RSFSR State Prize named after I. E. Repin (1970). He was a member of the Union of Artists of the USSR.
Biography
He was born on May 6 (19), 1903, in Samara on the Volga River, in the family of a railway employee. During his childhood, he lived in many cities across Russia and worked as a newspaper boy and bookbinder. In 1922, he entered the Samara Art Technical School. From 1923 to 1930, he studied in Moscow at Vkhutemas—Vkhutein under P. P. Konchalovsky, I. I. Mashkov, R. R. Falk, and D. A. Shcherbinovsky. He was part of the group of young artists ROST. During his artistic career, he created numerous landscapes, mainly of central Russia. Many of his works are held in the collections of Russia’s largest museums, especially the State Tretyakov Gallery.
He died on April 10, 1987, in Moscow and was buried at the Vagankovo Cemetery (plot No. 23).
