Author about himself

If I insist on anything, it's on indecisiveness, on the absence of categoricalness and declarativity, when the work is like a phrase with an ellipsis at both the beginning and the end.

Critic

"Transcendental is, apparently, the flicker that arises between the real world with its smells and the artist's picture imbued with the scent of paint," as was noted. He shows the small, colorful world of paper scraps from his desk, even from the wastebasket. Scribbles of yet undefined ideas, fleeting plastic impressions, ink blots, pen or brush trials, fleeting memory notes... "Who among us has not gazed at or tried to frame a greasy stain?" the artist asks. Outlined, smoothed on spacious mats, these scraps gain compositional structure and, with it, a significance previously unknown to them. They assertively demand attention: not trash, but living traces of life in its elusive flow, moments of bygone existence, materialized Time.
Together with the artist, we also look more intently into ourselves, discover something important about ourselves to which we had previously paid no attention.
Yu. Gerchuk. From the catalogue of a solo exhibition at the "A 3" Gallery. Moscow, 1994.
