Author about himself

Experimental and theoretical development of the problems of "overcoming material", kinetic and programmed art, the creation of paradoxical kinetic, constructive, and visual models and images. Exploration of new means of artistic expression (self-collage, handmade holography - "light-stereography", photo-painting). Creation of self-tensioned and self-erecting structures and compositions, acoustic exotic musical instruments (ovaloid, constructive sound spatial structures).

Critic

Vyacheslav Koleichuk is an inventor and form-maker, a type always present in art, but always in small numbers. At the beginning of our century, numerous diverse reasons, both external and internal to art, led formal innovation, artistic invention and discovery to become the most valued qualities of creativity.
Koleichuk is an heir of the avant-garde artists of the early 20th century. The influence of these related phenomena is evident in his work. We feel the impulses he received from Rodchenko and K. Ioganson, Tatlin and Malevich... But we also clearly sense his persistent resistance to this legacy—even the old constructive ideas are reinterpreted by Koleichuk in the language of new spatial relations. The massive forms of K. Ioganson, for example, have been transformed by Koleichuk into open, floating organisms.
Fundamentally, by his talent and personality type, Koleichuk is a "classic," a "son of harmony"—not a classicist or a phlegmatic, but a classic. This should be understood not as an evaluative term, but as a definition of the master's specificity. This is the particularity of his aestheticization of technical and technological forms, which are pointedly rational and yet "irrational" in their figurative resonance... All his works remain harmonious, nobly balanced, "absolute." That is why Koleichuk's spatial structures do not require figurative-metaphorical props—their expressiveness arises directly from the harmony of the form itself, analogous to the harmony of natural formations. A "standing thread" is just a thread—not an ear of grain, not a reed. A fan-like spatial structure is simply a structure, not a paraphrase of a bird's wing silhouette, and so on.
Vyacheslav Koleichuk has been actively working for about three decades. Despite the great unity of all he has created, we see the waves of time that have flowed through his work: the democratism, open constructivism, the dynamism of the '60s; the complex conceptualism, visual and spatial games, the irrationalism of "impossible objects" of the '70s; the new conceptualism, already in the key of "postmodern" of the '80s—archaeologism of incomprehensible objects of a "foreign civilization", an interest in imagery, stylistic stereotypes including salon objects, playing with cultural meanings of things and forms... Before us is a living, developing, unfinished body of work with its absolute achievements, questionable missteps, dead-ends and new discoveries.
The artist is constantly engaged in active research of his material: constructions, forms, textures and the laws of our vision (perception of raster forms, paradoxical visual illusions), as well as natural phenomena and their visible traces: effects of magnets, heterogeneous liquids, mirrors, and much more. These observations and mini-discoveries in the surrounding reality give rise to artistically imaginative breakthroughs in his practice.
And finally. At first glance, Koleichuk's work—his inventive art—is a pure laboratory, often an easel experiment. However, these works with extraordinary and unexpected ease and without significant transformation become fully monumental solutions in architecture and design. In the transition from fantasy to reality, from experiment to practice, from play to task, Koleichuk is just as harmonious and natural as in all else. "A classic."
