Born on October 5, 1959, in Rostov-on-Don.
Was a member of the "Eto" club.
Graduated from the Sedov Rostov Nautical School in 1978.
In 1987, graduated from the Art and Graphics Faculty of the Rostov State Pedagogical Institute.
Since 1988 — member of the "Art or Death" association (Rostov-on-Don).
In 1991, moved to Moscow.
Took active part in the activities and projects of the Trëkhprudny Lane Gallery and the "Baumanskaya, 13" Gallery.
Lives and works in Moscow.

Against the background of Moscow art, which represents a sum of individual "case histories", the position of Alexander Sigutin is distinguished by declarative "health", a striving for Norm, Canon, Model, Standard, which in itself contradicts the traditional definition of an artist as an abnormal being, a "boundary violator".
In the "Comparative Abstractionism" series, he, unashamed of associations typically concealed by educated connoisseurs of beauty, compares, for example, Mondrian's geometricism to children's colored blocks used to build horses, airplanes, etc. In his own way interpreting the modernist mythologeme of children's drawings as a peculiar "preserve" of pure creative energy, he creates "educational aids" for exemplary children's creativity, intending to exhibit them in kindergartens and nurseries. Or he tests his colleagues' professional level with children's coloring books (it must be noted, few managed to demonstrate sufficient diligence and neatness).
The obvious irony of these searches for a model for "correct art", in which strict sea-regulation-like laws and accessible criteria of "good" and "bad" would operate (like a ruler and scale measuring creative growth and public weight in his action "Hierarchy in Art" for determining standard artist and critic), masks with deliberate buffoonery the seriousness of Sigutin's aspirations and thus softens the hopeless utopianism of finding an ideal.

DID WE LIVE IN THESE YEARS?
Since the authors of the exhibition used as their primary source the title of a planned event ("I lived in these years... (the 70s)"), I considered it possible to apply the methodology of Ilf and Petrov, which they proposed to aspiring feuilletonists, namely: how to title an essay or feuilleton. Best, in their opinion, to pose a question in the title. The exhibitors, no longer young, decided to appeal to childhood impressions and build an elegant and well-measured installation.
We wish them that their work turns out to be as exquisite as the "goblet" from which we are offered to drink a decidedly unchildish beverage with a little turd as a snack.
