Vladimir Konstantinovich Pankratov

Born in 1942 in the village of Kozinka, Golosnovsky District, Voronezh Region. In 1970, he graduated from the Stroganov Moscow State Academy of Arts and Industry. Since 1972, participant in all-Union, Moscow, and international exhibitions.

Author about himself

Since early childhood, as far back as I can remember, I was sometimes overtaken by a kind of mad state that gave me the deepest delight. Twilight is the crevice between worlds. To go there, to fly to the edge, to look in… an exciting feeling envelops and carries me. But feeling is not enough; one wants to realize, to understand, or at least somehow fix such phenomenal passages. Only something similar can speak of this—poetry, painting—things possible with a sufficient degree of detachment, even, if you like, madness. Before painting an icon, the artist of former times would fast for a week to imbue himself with the content of purity and holiness. That is why rhythm, form, and color resulted, and in general—a prayer. The same applies today. Fasting and focusing on the unity of the world's infinite diversity, and the fore-feeling of a subtle and sharp connection with the other—all should renew the expressiveness of what stands behind that overwhelming feeling. I want the paintings to be strong, constructive, to strengthen a person, and at the same time gentle, precise in color, changeable in painting technique, so that the soul may be fascinated and soar, thus realizing its forgotten quality. Success in painting is happiness in life.
