Zakomorny Oleg Georgievich
Oleg Georgievich Zakomorny (born July 4, 1968, Novosibirsk) is a Russian sculptor and graphic artist. Honored Artist of the Russian Federation (2010), corresponding member of the Russian Academy of Arts.
Biography
He was born on July 4, 1968, in Novosibirsk. His father, Georgy Leonidovich Zakomorny, was a civil engineer, and his mother, Natalya Alexandrovna Zakomornaya, was an electronics engineer. After six years the family moved to Kharkov, where Oleg first attended an art studio at the Palace of Pioneers and then a children's art school. At 14, he moved to Moscow to enter the Moscow Secondary Art School named after N. V. Tomsky, studying there from 1982 to 1986. In 1986, he entered the Moscow State Academic Art Institute named after V. I. Surikov. After a break for military service (1987–1989), he continued his studies at the institute under professors Lev Kerbel and Oleg Komov.
Zakomorny created the statuette-prize for the ballet award "Soul of Dance," established in 1994 by the Ministry of Culture and the editorial office of the magazine "Ballet." In 1995, his first solo exhibition dedicated to the presentation of the "Soul of Dance" prize took place at the Moscow Dramatic Theater named after A. S. Pushkin.
He became a member of the Moscow Union of Artists (1995), the Creative Union of Artists of Russia (1996), and the International Art Foundation (1997). In 2010, Oleg Zakomorny was awarded the title of Honored Artist of the Russian Federation. In 2011, he was elected a corresponding member of the Russian Academy of Arts.
Since 2011, Oleg Zakomorny has conducted charity classes with children from the department of congenital heart defects at the Bakulev National Medical Research Center for Cardiovascular Surgery in cooperation with the Charitable Foundation "Facets of Talent" under the patronage of the Russian Academy of Arts.
In 2012, he was awarded a Certificate of Honor from the Moscow City Duma "For services to the city community." In 2013, he received a commemorative medal in honor of the 75th anniversary of the Altai Territory for the creation and installation of the monument "To Settlers in Altai from Grateful Descendants." In 2018, he was awarded the Silver Medal of the Russian Academy of Arts and, the same year, a Letter of Gratitude from the Moscow City Duma "For services to the city community and in connection with the anniversary."
Artistic Work
The artist's creative range is very broad: from drawings to monumental sculpture. These include portraits, figures, animalistics, genre compositions, fantasy compositions, memorial plaques, and garden-park sculpture. According to the critic Vanslov, Zakomorny managed to revive the forgotten genre of everyday children's portrait in Russian sculpture. Over years of meticulous work, the artist has developed his own distinctive style; his works, both monumental and chamber, are always recognizable. Bronze sculptures depict not just an object, but the object in its surrounding space. The artist often places figures against an openwork relief panel (compositions of elements from nature: trees, clouds, water, etc.).
