The versatile artist Paul Börner (1888-1970) created a series of humorous, sometimes grotesque, charming depictions, to which the famous figure group in its early form and vibrant coloring belongs. From 1911, after a several-month trial period at the Meissen manufactory, he was permanently employed and in 1923 received his own master studio.
