Ahlden/Aller - 9-09-2023
Four-pass curved shape with rocaille relief decoration. In the flat mirror, an impressionistic arrangement of yellow and red roses in soft, polychrome painting, likely by Prof. Julius Eduard Braunsdorf, on a delicate yellow background. Sword mark. 25.5 cm x 20 cm. The free handling of the brush, the translucent application of color, and the soft, contourless transitions are stylistic features of Braunsdorf's flower painting. J.E. Braunsdorf (1841-1922) broke away from the traditional Meissen bouquet painting and developed, towards the end of the 19th century, a typical impressionistic, soft style, which he sustainably influenced Meissen's flower painting. See Jedding, Meissener Porzellan 19th and 20th century, p. 101, no. 100, Berling, Festschrift, p. 109, Sonntag, Sprache der Blumen, p. 88 ff.; Neuwirth, Porzellanmaler-Lexikon, Vol. I, p. 166. A small porcelain tray finely painted with an arrangement of roses, probably by J.E. Braunsdorf. Crossed swords mark. Meissen. Circa 1900.
