Large Meissen wall plate with floral painting.

1 637 800.00

Round, flat, dished form. In the mirror, a large-scale flower arrangement is depicted, consisting of yellow, rosé-colored, and red roses, painted in a delicate, color-changing, polychrome style. The plate has a gold rim and an unglazed base. It bears the crossed swords mark. Diameter: 48 cm. The decoration is stylistically rooted in the tradition of flower painting by Professor Julius Eduard Braunsdorf. J.E. Braunsdorf (1841-1922) revolutionized Meissen flower painting in the late 19th century. Departing from the traditional bouquet style, he developed a characteristic style with an impressionistic touch, characterized by a free brushstroke and soft, diffuse transitions. Subsequent generations of painters followed the Braunsdorf style and developed a wide variety of variants in Meissen flower painting. This large porcelain wall plate is finely painted in the manner of Prof. J.E. Braunsdorf. It bears the crossed swords mark. Meissen, circa 1935-1945.
