A splendid porcelain tureen, carried by four rocaille feet, with an oval and compressed-bulbous body, adorned with a molded neck and profiled rim. The handles on the sides are leaf-shaped and curved. The domed cover is embellished with shell relief and features a centrally ascending knob in the form of a postament, upon which sits a pair of cupids with a plastic flower garland as a crown. On both sides of the body and the cover, there are "en miniature" Watteau scenes framed in rocaille cartouches, depicting elegant groups, some of which are engaged in music-making, surrounded by lush, finely plastic flower decorations. The tureen is adorned with relief cord and lambrequin motifs, as well as gold lace borders. The recessed mirror is decorated with golden foliage and ribbon ornamentation. The extremely fine, polychrome painting features color gradations in pink and sea green. The rich gold embellishments are partially restored. Sword mark. Height: 28.5 cm. Meissen. Late 19th century.
