Large decorative box in the Capodimonte style

Rectangular body with a flat hinged lid, profiled edges with gold border decoration as a framing for all-around, relief-plastic, mythological representations in the Capodimonte style. On the front and back, the Amazon battle or the Calydonian boar hunt. The narrow sides depict scenes of the flaying of Marsyas or Diana at rest, hanging from a tree. The lid top depicts the banquet of Herod and is surrounded by floating putti over clouds with animals or playing amorini in rocky landscape. Polychrome painting. Model number 20. Brass-mounted mounting with residual gilding. Sword mark. Height 19 cm. 29 cm x 16 cm. From around 1865, the Meissen porcelain manufactory produced colorfully staffed relief porcelain in the style of Capodimonte, which enjoyed great popularity, especially in the English kingdom.
