Great rare costume figure "Lady with Cat"

2 288 100.00

On a naturalistically designed pedestal stands a young noble lady in festive, medieval-looking attire, with a magnificent, jewel-encrusted headdress and a belted purse. In her left hand, she holds a ball of wool. With her left hand, she lifts her dress, on which a seated cat is firmly attached. Polychrome painting with partially etched gold decoration. Possibly by Heinrich Goeschl, 1882. Model number M 190. Some unknown restoration; sword mark. Height 40 cm. The native Munich sculptor Heinrich Goeschl (1839-1896) studied at the Academy of Fine Arts in Munich, among others under Max Widnmann. He mainly created small bronze and ivory sculptures, which he exhibited in Munich. He created numerous genre figures and figure groups in costumes from the Middle Ages, the Renaissance, the Empire, or the Biedermeier period. Between 1880 and 1882, the Meissen Manufactory acquired six models by Goeschl. The counterpart to the present figure is a hunter in medieval costume with a crossbow accompanied by a hunting dog (model number M 189). See Jedding, Meissener Porzellan des 19. und 20. Jhs., p. 147; Thieme-Becker, XIV, p. 313f. A large rare porcelain figure of a lady in medieval costume. Insignificantly restored. Crossed swords mark. Meissen. Late 19th century.
