On a naturalistically designed rock base adorned with plastic tufts of grass and ferns, an athletic, bearded Hercules is depicted in a advancing pose, partially clad and holding a nemesis lion pelt supported by a chain. The plastic lion head lies on his right shoulder. In his left hand, he holds a club. Sitting on his left shoulder is Cupid, accentuated with mint green fabric, holding a canary bird on his outstretched hand. Polychrome painting. Possibly by Emmerich Andresen, 1902. Model T 104. Some insignificant restoration; crossed swords mark. Height 51 cm. Powerful representation of the mythological hero, designed by the sculptor and porcelain artist Emmerich Andresen (1843-1902), who studied under Ernst Gottfried Vivé in Hamburg and at the Dresden Academy of Fine Arts under Ernst Julius Hähnel. He was appointed head of the design department at the Meissen Porcelain Manufactory in 1886. Besides allegorical figures or soldier groups, Andresen created several sculptures in the manner of monumental large-scale sculptures, as well as porcelain figures of heroes from Greek or Germanic mythology or legends. See Jedding, Meissen Porcelain of the 19th and 20th centuries, p. 141; Thieme-Becker, Vol. I, p. 481. A large rare porcelain figure group of Hercules and Cupid. Insignificantly restored. Crossed swords mark. Meissen. End of the 19th century.
