About an oval, naturalistically designed base stands a naked Cupid, leaning his left leg on a rock and supporting himself with a red cloth. The upper body leans backwards and shoots an arrow with a bow. At the feet lies a quiver with further arrows. Polychrome painting with gold accents. Possibly by Johann Christian Hirt, 1881. Model number M 159. Restored; crossed swords mark. Height 43 cm. The sculptor Johann Christian Hirt (1836-1897), born in Fürth, studied classical sculpture at the Munich Academy under Max von Widnmann. He created numerous statues and small sculptures in bronze and silver. The shooting Cupid was purchased in 1881 alongside other models from the Meissen Manufactory.
