Sitting with crossed legs, a chubby Chinese man is depicted wearing a white garment adorned with Indian flowers, a net-like shirt, and a gold-decorated lace collar, along with a gem-set belt and purple slippers. The hands, head, and tongue are movable. The polychrome painting is embellished with gold accents. Possibly by Johann Joachim Kaendler. Sword mark. Height: 33 cm. The so-called "Wackelpagoden" (nodding pagodas) can be traced back to designs from 1762 when Frederick II of Prussia commissioned "10 bajodens with nodding heads". The five female and five male figures were installed as part of the interior design of the Chinese House at Sanssouci after the end of the Seven Years' War. See: Catalogue of the Royal Saxon Porcelain Manufactory, 1904, p. 27; Rückert, Bayerisches Nationalmuseum, No. 1027; Pietsch, Triumph, p. 144. A large porcelain figure of a male pagoda nodder. Crossed swords mark. Meissen. Circa 1935-1945.
