A porcelain figure group of "Asia" from the series "Four Continents". The figure depicts a young woman sitting on a camel, wearing a white dress with a floral pattern and a purple mantle, personifying the continent of Asia. Her hair is adorned with oriental headwear. In her left hand, she holds a censer, and in her right hand, she holds a scepter. The figure is naturalistically designed with plastic flowers and leaves on a realistically shaped base. The polychrome painting is embellished with gold accents. It is possibly by Johann Joachim Kaendler, model number 761. There are some minor restorations. The allegories of the four continents in their grand form were commissioned by Empress Elizabeth Petrovna of Russia in 1745. The figure group "Asia" is mentioned in the work reports of Eberlein in 1745 as follows: "A group representing one of the four parts of the world, Asia, in the form of a Turkish woman sitting on a camel and holding a scepter in her right hand, but in her left hand holding a censer, belonging to the Russian commission, started." See catalog Pietzsch, Meissen for the Tsars, figure 143. An allegorical porcelain figure group of "Asia" from the series "Four Continents". Insignificant restorations. Crossed swords mark. Meissen. Circa 1900.
