Allegorical Figure Group "Asia"

A porcelain figure group from the series "Four Continents". The figure depicts a young woman sitting on a camel, personifying the continent of Asia. The figure is adorned with plastic flowers and leaves, realistically designed on a naturalistic base. The woman is wearing a white dress with a flower-patterned design and a purple-colored mantle. Her hair is covered with oriental headgear. In her left hand, she holds an incense burner, and in her right hand, she holds a scepter. The polychrome painting is embellished with gold accents. Possibly by Johann Joachim Kaendler. Model number 761. Restored; crossed swords mark. Height 20 cm. The four allegories of the continents are arranged in Kaendler's taxas (1740-48) according to the 20th of November 1745. A slightly modified model of the "Asia" group was modeled in the summer of 1745 as part of a cycle and under the supervision of Kaendler by Johann Friedrich Eberlein. This was part of the order of Empress Elizabeth Petrovna for the Russian court.
