Frontally curved base with relief ornament borders. Composed over rocky terrain, an amoretto group contemplating a problem. Two seated amoretto figures, one with an open book, a standing inkwell and quill to the side. Behind them stands another putto with an unrolled scroll. Polychrome painting with gold staffage. Possibly by Michel Victor Acier. Model number 12. Unidentified restoration; sword mark. Height 21 cm. Represents a design for a figure group originally conceived by Acier in 1774 for the so-called "Great Russian Order" for Empress Catherine II of Russia, known as Catherine the Great.
