Frontal, passive, curved base with relief-decorated wave and oak leaf border. Above rocky terrain, a magnificent table with a celestial globe composed a group of three amorini reading, observing with a telescope, and drawing star constellations. Polychrome painting with gold staffage. Possibly by Michel Victor Acier. Model number 9. Unidentified restoration; crossed swords mark. Height 19.5 cm. An adaptation of a figure group designed by Acier in 1774 for the so-called "Great Russian Order" for Empress Catherine II of Russia, known as Catherine the Great. See Pietzsch, Kat.
