In the foreground, there is a gracefully curved pedestal with relief ornament borders. On rocky terrain, an Amoretto group is composed, pondering over a problem. Two seated Amorettes, one of them with an open book, quill pen, and inkwell. Behind them stands another putto with an unrolled scroll. Polychrome painting with gold staffage. Possibly by Michel Victor Acier. Model number 12. Some restoration; crossed swords mark. Height 21 cm. 17 cm x 10 cm. Represents a figure group designed by Acier in 1774 for the so-called "Great Russian Order" for Empress Catherine II of Russia, known as Catherine the Great. See Pietzsch, Kat.
