(1920 Mazara del Vallo - 2005 Milan) "Trofeo Alfa Romeo" (Alfa Romeo Trophy). Original title Bronze, brown patinated, 1976. Signed; numbered 233/330, foundry stamp "VENTURI ARTE BOLOGNA" as well as stamp "alfa romeo a" with company logo. The bronze sculpture combines a stylized four-leaf clover as a symbol of luck with elements of futurism, expressing the dynamics of racing and the future success of Alfa Romeo. Consagra is one of the most important abstract sculptors in Italy, from 1952 to 1972 he participated six times in the Biennale in Venice, in 1959 and 1964 at Documenta in Kassel. The Alfa Romeo trophies are sculptures that the car manufacturer commissioned from a different important Italian artist each year from 1963 to 1987 and awarded to drivers who won races or achieved special performances for Alfa Romeo.
