(1881 Meiderich b. Duisburg - 1919 Berlin) after "Girl's Head on Slender Neck" (Head of the "Great Contemplative") Bronze, dark brown patinated. Artist's inscription; posthumous, contemporary cast (late 20th/early 21st century) after the bronze sculpture from 1913/14 (see Schubert 67). Rectangular cast stone base. The right-leaning head with its elongated proportions, reflecting intended charm and youthfulness, also represents a new style in Lehmbrock's oeuvre and an expressionistic intensification perceived as "gothic". Here, he moved away from a naturalistic representation, as the female model only served as inspiration for the plastic form. From 1910 to 1914, Lehmbrock stayed in Paris, where he exhibited "The Great Contemplative" at the Salon des Artistes Indépendants in the spring of 1914. In addition to "The Great Contemplative" itself, he also created fragmentations of the figure as a head or torso, which he saw as independent works. Bronze H. approx. 38.5 cm; Total H. approx. 48.7 cm. After Wilhelm Lehmbrock (1881-1919). Dark brown patinated bronze. Inscribed. Posthumous, contemporary cast, late 20th/early 21st century. Cast stone base.
