Passively curved, elongated base. Standing deer on a naturalistically designed, overgrown rocky terrain, in an attentive position, with its head turned to the left. Polychrome painting. Possibly by Prof. Theodor Kärner, around 1938/39. Design number 10. Restored. Impressed manufacturer's mark in octagon. Height 37.5 cm. Length 30 cm. The animal sculptor and porcelain modeler Theodor Kärner (1884-1966) completed his training in Hohenberg an der Eger at the porcelain manufactory C.M. Hutschenreuther, later went to Munich, where he was a guest student at the famous animal painter Heinrich von Zügel at the Academy of Fine Arts. He created numerous animal figures in a naturalistic style, primarily for Nymphenburg and Rosenthal, and later for the manufactory in Munich-Allach. In April 1938, he was appointed professor at the Academy of Fine Arts in Munich. See Ziffer, Nymphenburger Moderne, p. 166ff.
