From the figurative table decoration "Birth of Beauty" in white porcelain. On an irregular, molded base with plastic ascending waves, a naked Nereid with curly hair rides on a rearing hippocampus. Sitting on a cushion and holding onto the neck of the hybrid creature. Possibly Paul Scheurich, around 1939/40. Year mark. Restored; scepter mark. H. 41 cm. L. 48 cm. The multipart table decoration "Birth of Beauty" executed in white porcelain at KPM Berlin is one of the major commissioned works in the last creative period of Paul Scheurich. Between 1939 and 1940, he designed this for the Reichsaußenminister Joachim von Ribbentrop. Due to a prolonged illness, Scheurich was unable to complete the table decoration entirely. Some design drawings are preserved in the archive of KPM Berlin, including the one of the "Naiad". See Rafael, Keramos issue 240, 2018, p. 3-53; Kollmann, Berliner Porzellan, Vol. II, plate 291d; Jarchow, Berliner Porzellan im 20. Jh., p. 146. A large figure group of a Naiad riding on a hippocampus from the table set "The Birth of Beauty". Dated and signed. Restored. Sceptre mark. KPM-Berlin. Circa 1962-1992.
