Exquisitely conceived and formally reduced, this female mask with intricately crafted eyes is glazed in an ivory color. It is attributed to Gerhard Schliepstein, circa 1928. Model number 402. Manufacture mark. Height: 24 cm. The pendant piece "Night," with model number 400, was created accordingly with closed eyes. Schliepstein is considered one of the most significant sculptors of the first half of the 20th century. From 1911, he produced porcelain figures for the Royal Porcelain Manufactory Berlin, later for Meissen and others, including the Schwarzburger Werkstätten.
