On an irregular, iceberg-shaped base stands a group of four king penguins, realistically depicted in various poses. The figures are polychrome under- and overglaze painted. Possibly by Erich Hösel, 1913. Model number V 144. Year mark. Sword mark. Height 31 cm. The sculptor Erich Hösel (1869-1953) studied at the Dresden Academy of Fine Arts, later also under Johannes Schilling and Robert Diez. In 1903, he was appointed head of the design department, and in 1904 he received the title of professor. In 1912, he was promoted to design director. As a designing artist, he was a member of the German Werkbund. For the Meissen Manufactory, he created numerous naturalistic animal figures, primarily lifelike animal figures. As a pendant, Hösel also designed another group (model number V 145) with a different body posture, also in 1913. An Art Nouveau porcelain figure group of four king penguins modeled by E. Hösel.
