On a high pedestal base sits a sea lion juggling a golden ball. The polychrome underglaze painting is done in green and reddish tones. Possibly by Rudolf Löhner. Model number C 231. Sword mark. Height 27 cm. The Dresden sculptor Rudolf Löhner (1890-1971) is primarily known for his animal sculptures. He studied at the Dresden Academy of Fine Arts from 1908 to 1911, where he was a master student of Georg Wrba and was taught by August Gaul. The Meissen Manufactory already acquired some animal models by Löhner between 1911 and 1913, including a panther group, a leopard, and a young lion. The juggling sea lion is a rare variation. See Jedding, Meissen Porcelain of the 19th and 20th centuries, p. 156; Just, Meissen Art Nouveau, p. 158. A rare porcelain figure of a sea lion juggling with a golden ball. Crossed swords mark. Meissen. Early 20th century.
