On a flat base, a dynamically moving, naturalistically crafted group of two scimitar-horned oryxes springing playfully over each other. Polychrome underglaze painting. Possibly by Otto Pilz, 1912. Marked "O. Pilz". Model number B 253. Restored. Sword mark. Height 29 cm. Pilz is primarily known for his naturalistic, dynamically moving animal figures that he supplied as a freelance sculptor for the Meissen Manufactory starting in 1905. They are among the masterpieces of Jugendstil porcelain sculpture. This model, as well as other animal groups ("Zebra with Black Panther," group "Wind Games"), were exhibited at the Dresden Art Exhibition in 1912.
