On an oval plinth adorned with stylized relief decor stands an elegant lady in a form-fitting, white "tailor-made" costume, wearing a flat straw hat and holding a bouquet of flowers in her right hand. With her left hand, she gathers her skirt. The figure is sparingly polychrome under- and overglaze painted. Possibly by Theodor Eichler, 1904. Model number U 176. In unrestored condition; crossed swords mark. Height: 31 cm. This sophisticated portrayal of a worldly and elegant lady at the beginning of the 20th century is characterized by a typical style and restrained formal language of the so-called fashion ladies, a type of porcelain sculpture that emerged around the turn of the century. Eichler spent an extended period in cosmopolitan Paris around 1906, which inspired him to create a series of impressive female representations. See Just, Meissen Art Nouveau Porcelain, plate 38 and page 125. Provenance: From the estate of a significant private collection in northern Germany. An Art Nouveau porcelain figure of an elegant lady with a bouquet of flowers. Insignificantly restored. Crossed swords mark. Meissen, circa 1904-1923.
