Great allegorical Meissen Art Nouveau figure "The Night"

Square, recessed plinth with beveled corners, surrounding gold decoration. Floating above a gilded half sphere, a depicted female nude with raised head and closed eyes. The chestnut brown hair is loosely tied in a knot at the nape of the neck. The right hand rests on the back of the head, while the left hand holds a lilac-colored cloth. Pastel-toned, polychrome painting. Either Arthur Lange, 1901. Model number T 158. Sword mark. Height 44 cm. Graceful representation of a nude in soft modeling with delicately detailed flesh tones. Following the Meissen drawing school and a training in sculpting at the Dresden School of Arts and Crafts, Arthur Lange (1875-1929) was employed as a modeler at Meissen in 1898. From 1903-1908, he studied at the Dresden Academy of Fine Arts and then left the manufactory to work as an independent sculptor in Dresden. He was one of the master students of Robert Diez, alongside Ernst Barlach. Even during his studies, his works were repeatedly honored with awards.
