Approximately oval, bowl-shaped base. A Triton, seated amidst ocean waves, holding a net in which a reclining nymph is entangled, adorned with sea roses and smiling. A child sits on his fish-tailed legs. Polychrome painting. Possibly by Paul Helmig, 1902. Model number T 53. Minor restoration; small firing crack. Sword mark. Height 20 cm, 37 cm x 26 cm. Around 1900, Paul Helmig designed a series of imaginative figures, bowls, and decorative vessels with nymphs, tritons, and children for the Meissen Manufactory. The size, detailed execution, and elaborate detailing make Helmig's model one of the most impressive creations of the Art Nouveau period.
