Rocaille-shaped reliefed, gold-contoured pedestal. Seated on a rock is a personification of the Christian virtue Caritas, representing love, charity, and care. Depicted as a young mother, she is breastfeeding her infant and looking down at her son with a bird's nest and little birds. Polychrome painting with gold staffage. Possibly by Paul Helmig, around 1899-1900. Model number S 166. Minor restoration; crossed swords mark. Height 19 cm. Paul Helmig (1859-1939), who visited the drawing school of the Meissen Manufactory in the early years, worked as a modeler in Meissen from 1882 until his retirement in 1925. He created numerous models initially in the style of the Neo-Rococo, later in the language of the Jugendstil. Provenance: From the estate of a significant private collection in Northern Germany.
