Ahlden/Aller - 9-09-2023

A unique, opulent ensemble.

5 780 400.00

This exquisite piece consists of a large centerpiece and two silver girandoles. The centerpiece is characterized by a wavy, wide base that gradually tapers upwards in a conical shape, resembling a vegetal form. It seamlessly transitions into a fully sculpted and extremely naturalistic tree trunk. On top of the trunk, there are four relief-plastic wine leaves, with a woven lattice made of wine leaf vines, intricately adorned with deep grooved, radiating flutes and reliefed godrons. The corpus is decorated with applied grapevine leaves. Emerging from the base are four fully sculpted horses, growing out of shellwork and volutes. The girandoles, with their three-fold drawn-in, wavy bases and short baluster shafts, transition into four vase-shaped tulles with flat drip trays, ending in naturalistically shaped leaves. The chandelier corpus is surrounded by a lush, chiseled acanthus leafwork. The shaft is adorned with three ascending horses, corresponding to the horses on the centerpiece. Marked 13 lot, assay and maker's mark. Weight approximately 12070 grams. Height 59 cm - 60 cm. Bowl diameter 33 cm. See Neuwirth, Wiener Silber 1781-1866, page 158 and p. 2178 for further reference. Another silver object from the same year can be found in the National Museum "Národní muzeum" in Prague. This unique and opulent Vienna silver centerpiece with two 5-lights girandoles was made by the renowned gold and silversmith Franz Schiffer in 1852.
