Extraordinary, heavy decorative casket

Silver. Rectangular body with recessed, straight walls and chamfered corners, supported by four fully sculpted, reclining lions. Hinged, flat lid. The displayed corners are designed in the form of crowned frog heads. Body walls and lid adorned with a total of 29 different inset coins and medals from the 17th century to the beginning of the 20th century, such as a Danzig thaler with a profile representation of Sigismund III, King of Poland and Grand Duke of Lithuania, a so-called convention taler of the German principality Schwarzburg-Rudolstadt from 1791, an Indian rupee from 1893 with a profile representation of Queen Victoria, a medal from 1894 for the 11th German Federal Shooting Competition in Mainz, a commemorative medal for the marriage of Queen Wilhelmina of the Netherlands in 1901 with Heinrich, Duke of Mecklenburg-Schwerin, and a recognition medal from the Flora Garden Society in Dresden around 1900. The spaces in between are decorated with relief-engraved leaf scrolls, flowers, and architectural elements. Additionally, four applied coins with coat of arms representations are placed on the chamfered corners. On the display side, there is a commemorative medal from the Great Academic Art Exhibition Berlin in 1887, with a hinged cover serving as a cover for a small castle. Gilded on the inside. Key missing. Stamped 800. Probably made in Hanau. 1st quarter 20th century.
