(1902 Heidelberg - 1945 missing) Large female nude bronze, gold-brown patinated, signed. On a rectangular plinth, standing in contrapposto, a female nude with her shoulder and hair raised. This bronze was created in the second half of the 1930s. Abel studied from 1921-1923 at the Baden State Art School Karlsruhe, from 1923-1928 at the United State Schools in Berlin with Kurt Kluge and as a master student for sculpture with Wilhelm Gerstel. Since 1926, Abel had his own studio in Berlin. In 1929, he became a fellow of the Prussian Academy of Arts for the German Academy Rome Villa Massimo, followed by study stays in Paris. From 1933, Abel belonged to the studio community Klosterstraße, where well-known artist colleagues such as Hermann Blumenthal, Käthe Kollwitz, Gerhard Marcks, and Richard Scheibe worked. In 1939/40, he received another scholarship for the German Academy Rome Villa Massimo. From 1938-1944, Abel was represented multiple times in the Great German Art Exhibition in Munich, mainly with female nude statues. In 1945, he was drafted into the Volkssturm and has been missing since April 1945. Height: 100 cm. Provenance: According to information from the consignor in the 1980s, acquired from the estate of the co-owner Martin (1890-1962) of the existing Martin and Pitzling sculpture foundry in Berlin. Golden brown patinated bronze. Signed.
