(1867 Naples - 1926 ibid) Southern Dancer with Castanets Chryselephantine Figure. Bronze, partially gilded, carved ivory; onyx base. Signed, numbered on a hem "3763" (model or foundry number). Standing on the tip of her right foot in a graceful pose, the dancer holds her right leg raised and her arms held against the clockwise direction. Rossi learned in Naples from Achille d'Orsi (1845-1929), he himself quickly became famous for his realistic representations and later also for his Art Nouveau busts and statuettes, an internationally renowned sculptor. As early as 1891, he participated in the Triennale in Milan, in 1894 his life-size bronze of a fisherman boy with an octopus was awarded at the exhibition "Segona Exposició General de Belles Arts" in Barcelona and acquired by the museum. In 1904, he also exhibited at the "Italian Exhibition" in Earl's Court in London. Overall height 44 cm. CITES certificate is available.
