Ahlden/Aller - 1-12-2023
(1834 Paris - 1917 ibid) after "Danseuse regardant la plante de son pied droit" (Dancer contemplating the sole of her right foot). Original title Bronze, brown patinated. Artist's signature; unclear foundry mark. Posthumous, contemporary cast, 21st century. Standing on an irregular plinth, there is a nude figure of a dancer, holding her right foot high with her right hand while simultaneously observing the sole in a rotating movement. Degas created the model for this dancer between 1895 and 1911; his ambition was to capture women in their everyday activities and natural movements in such unconventional statuettes. Only in 1919/21 were the first posthumous bronze casts of 72 models executed by the (existing until 1936/37) foundry Hébrard in Paris; further casts were produced in the Valsuani foundry in Paris from 1955 to 2016. H. 65.5 cm. After Edgar Degas (1834-1917). Dark patinated bronze. Inscribed. Posthumous, contemporary cast, 21st century.
