(1882 Marggrabowa / East Prussia - 1919 Berlin) Märkische Dorfstraße Cold needle etching / Japan, 1913. Signed and dated (19)13 on the plate. Numbered 10/30. Magnificent, very gratifying and powerful print with plate tones. The sheet comes from a small, rare series of etchings that Brockhusen created in 1913 after his Villa Romana stay in Florence and his return to Berlin. These depict Märkische Dorfstraßen as autumn or winter moods, besides Potsdamer Platz. Plate size 39.5 cm x 49.2 cm; sheet approx. 50.5 cm x 61 cm. Frame of the time or original frame. The composition is also known in a slightly different version, of which an example is held in the National Gallery of Art in Washington (inv. no. 1951.10.261). Provenance: From the collection of Ella Wellhoener (1872-1937), procurist of the art salon Paul Cassirer, Berlin; in family possession since then. Etc.
