Ahlden/Aller - 1-12-2023
I present to you a terracotta, sand-colored, chamotte-fired shard. The figures are fully plastic. Standing on oval, fluted, bell-shaped pedestals are putti with their attributes - flowers as an allegory of spring, and sickles and sheaves as an allegory of summer. The polychrome painting is accompanied by a crackled glaze. The figures are slightly reduced in size, based on models created by Michael Powolny around 1915/16 for the Wienerberger ceramic factory. They were displayed in duplicate in the women's steam bath of the Vienna Diana Bath. Austrian provenance; height 66 cm. An Austrian pair of painted and glazed earthenware figures of putti as allegories of the seasons "Spring" and "Summer". After models by Michael Powolny conceived by the artist for the Wienerberger ceramic factory, circa 1915/16. Minor chips. Most likely from the Wienerberger factory. Circa 1915/16-1930.
