Stoneware, polychrome painting. Young, elegant ladies of the Biedermeier period with their respective attributes as allegories of the seasons "Spring", "Summer", "Autumn", and "Winter". Either Johanna Meier-Michel ("Spring" and "Summer"), Johanna Meier-Michel or Michael Powolny ("Autumn"), and Johanna Meier-Michel ("Winter"). Company marks of Wiener Keramik and Gmundner Keramik ("Spring" and "Summer"); "Autumn" with the company mark of Wiener Keramik and either the monogram "MP" for Michael Powolny; "Winter" with the company mark of Wiener Kunstkeramische Werkstätte (WKKW) and possibly the designation "MEIER". Height 29 cm - 30.5 cm. The first three designs from "Spring" to "Autumn" are documented in the archive of the Wiener Werkstätte at the Museum für Angewandte Kunst (MAK) in Vienna. "Spring" under inventory number WWF 89-133-3 (titled "Spring No. 22", model number K 99); "Summer" under inventory number WWF 89-13-4 (titled "Summer No. 23", model number K 100); "Autumn" under inventory number WWF 89-13-2 (titled "Autumn, colored No. 24", model number K 123; attributed to Johanna Meier-Michel). Four Austrian Vienna glazed and painted earthenware figures of young elegant ladies of the Biedermeier period as allegories of the four seasons.
