Retrospective
Exhibition format dedicated to an overview of an artist's or movement's work

Retrospective is an event where the exhibition is arranged to show the artist's or artistic movement's path over time. It brings together iconic works from different periods, sometimes even little-known sketches or early pieces. Organizers often invite the viewer to stroll through the "creative biography," tracing the evolution of style, themes, and techniques. The special quality of a retrospective is the atmosphere of personal history and a "living museum."
Such exhibitions have been held for Picasso (at 75!) and for little-known authors whose legacy was only discovered years later. Retrospectives are sometimes accompanied by curiosities: for example, scandals around the inclusion of works that the artist himself would have preferred to forget.
Interesting: after successful retrospectives, prices for the master's works at auctions noticeably rise.
