Description

Sterling silver. The stand (rechaud) features three narrow twisted legs adorned with a central burner and a delicate gadrooned rim above cork ornamentation. The kettle, resting on a short round base with a spherical body, has smooth sides with finely engraved leaf and gadrooned decoration. The flat, hinged lid is topped with an oval wooden handle. The conical curved spout is surrounded by raised, sculpted scrolls. The swinging overhead handle is wrapped in reed. The front side displays a finely engraved coat of arms. Signed, marked with hallmarks, including the date letter 'J', by maker John Swift (active from 1739). Total weight approximately 2465 g. Height 38 cm. See Jackson, p. 203.
