Rectangular pedestal base. A seated sea lion with its head raised on a rocky terrain. Delicately engraved, featuring a woolen pattern depiction. Expressive polychrome glazed painting. Possibly by Professor August Gaul. Model number A 1026. Marked. Height 32 cm. 27 cm x 23 cm. From the estate of the late sculptor and professor of the Berlin Academy of Arts, August Gaul (born 1869). In 1922, he acquired a manufactory where around 20 bronze animals were produced, later recreated in Bottger stoneware and white porcelain under the direction of his student Max Esser in 1922 and 1923.
