Description

Here is the translation of the text into English:

Russian silver sugar bowl with a lid, Russian Empire (Russia), 1855, weight 562 grams, 84 zolotniks, height to the top of the lid handle 13.5 cm.
Material, technique: silver, casting, stamping, repoussé, soldering.
Place of origin: Russian Empire, St. Petersburg, workshop of Seipel K.A.
Date of creation: 1855.
Weight - 562 grams of 84 zolotnik silver (equivalent to 875 metric silver).
The sugar bowl has rounded sides shaped like a pumpkin, narrowing at the top to a short decorative neck. Symmetrically, on four sides, the fullness of the shape is enhanced by double facets that start from the edges and extend almost to the bottom of the bowl.
The sugar bowl is set on four concave legs, resembling animal paws from the bottom and adorned on the top, at the points of attachment to the body, with relief palmettes featuring an asymmetric floral pattern and rocaille elements.
The loop-shaped handles of the piece are designed in the form of twisted vines.
The relief of the hinged dome-shaped lid is identical to that of the body. The grip on the lid is crafted in the shape of a three-dimensional branch with a fruit.
Marks on the piece:
“CAS” - the mark with the master's initials.
Russian assay marks used until 1899:
“AM” - initials of assay master Alexander Nikolaevich Mitin, 1842-1877.
The number “1855” indicates the year of marking.
The number “84” certifies that the piece is made from 84 standard silver.
“Two anchors crossed” - mark of the St. Petersburg Assay Office.
Conclusion:
The presented sugar bowl is a striking example of a piece made in the Rococo style, highly favored by Russian jewelers in the 19th century. Despite new trends in art, this refined European style, with its tendency towards sensual, flowing forms, lush floral ornaments, and asymmetry, has always remained in the attention of domestic masters.
The decoration and technique of the piece do not contradict its dating.
The condition of the item is classified as good.
