Surrealism is often perceived as a somewhat dark and gloomy world, where we encounter something incomprehensible, ornate, and sometimes even hostile and dangerous. However, in the works of Vitaly Glovatsky, surrealism acquires not only an optimistic but also a fantastical, fairy-tale-like character, to which the word 'fantasy' can be applied. These are very interesting and beautiful artworks. They remind one of the forgotten steampunk style. The style is very beautiful and notable for its peculiarity and a certain antiquity. Steampunk, in essence, is a style of wind-up mechanisms, a kind of chaos, objects working without modern fuel, which pollutes the environment. The artist's works strongly resemble the style used in the new 'Alice in Wonderland' game, which actively employs steampunk elements. Most likely, as many before him, the artist tried to convey the need for cleansing the planet from harmful exhaust gases and unnecessary expenses through his paintings.

Surrealist artist Vitaly Golovatsky was born in 1952. In 1989, he graduated from the Moscow State Academic Art School named after the year 1905. He worked in the field of graphic design for interiors. After 1995, he completely switched to easel painting. He constantly participates in exhibitions at the "Russian Cultural Center" gallery in Vienna and the "Mobil-Art" gallery in London. The artist's works are in private collections in Russia, England, Austria, Germany, France, and other countries. Speaking of stylistic characteristics, his artwork definitely includes a mix of surrealism, op-art (optical illusions in the style of Maurits Escher), a bit of symbolism, and retro-steampunk (in images of machines and constructions). The artist's works are presented in three groups of images, the first of which are Mauritz-Esher architectural motifs - references to the Dutch graphic artist. In Vitaly Golovatsky's works, motifs of not only Maurits Escher, but also clear traces of "Hunters in the Snow" by Peter Bruegel the Elder can be seen. The second group of works by V. Golovatsky is dedicated to architectural teapots. The third group of the artist's works is dedicated to fantastic means of transportation, executed in the steampunk style, and intended for movement on land, in water, and in the air.
