Art Brut
Naive art outside traditional boundaries

Art Brut (from French 'raw, pure art') is a movement uniting the creative work of people without artistic training: children, the mentally ill, outsiders. The works are distinguished by sincerity, spontaneity, and rejection of academic rules and canons. The term was proposed by artist Jean Dubuffet in the 1940s. The nature of materials is unpredictable—creators use everyday objects: pieces of glass, wood, textiles, scrap metal, and even old furniture.
Art Brut sometimes inspires professional artists. Due to their simplicity, directness, and emotionality, Art Brut collections sometimes fetch impressive sums at auctions. This art form challenges stereotypes and broadens our views on creativity.
