Depiction of urban views in painting and graphics

Urban landscape is an artistic genre reflecting urban architecture, streets, squares, bridges. Unlike traditional landscape, the main emphasis is on the dynamics and rhythm of city life, the interaction of man and buildings. The genre originated in the era of industrialization of the 19th century and was most vividly realized among representatives of Impressionism and Modernism.
Characterized by an unusual angle, the effect of city lights, reflections, the noise of the street. Paintings often capture changes in the time of day, weather phenomena, capturing the atmosphere of the city.
Interestingly, the first urban landscapes were often painted from rooftops or balconies to capture the panorama, and realist artists, for the sake of the desired angle, carried large heavy easels across the pavements, surprising passers-by!
The genre is actively developing — today it uses digital technologies, photography, street art.
A most interesting field for study!
